Hello world!
Welcome to my little blog. My very own little bit of the internet and it’s only going to contain the things I LOVE. I think it’s my favourite site already!
WHO AM I?
I’m Kevin and I am a bit of a foodie. As well as that, I love anything that involves craft or making things myself. I live in a 100 year old terrace house in Norwich, UK with my partner Chris and our 3 year old dog Duke. They both love food too, so you could say we are a match made in foodie heaven!
WHY AM I WRITING A BLOG?
I’ve been wanting to write a blog for a very long time but I was stuck with the very first (but, arguably, the most important) thing of all – giving it a good name. I finally decided on The Crafty Larder recently and I’ve just been given the little push I needed to start writing. But why do I want to write in the first place? Well…
- Jac over at Tinned Tomatoes has bullied me into creating a blog, and I always do as I’m told. (Only kidding, I am eternally grateful to her for giving me this push)
- I am VERY forgetful; I work for a while to create an excellent recipe and at that moment in time, it is so surely lodged in my memory that I am convinced I could never forget it. Fastforward a couple of weeks and I can’t even remember half the things that go in it! By writing it down in this blog I hope to remember a lot more of my recipes and enjoy them more than once.
- My friends and family are constantly requesting my recipes. But because I don’t write them down, I can’t usually supply them unless they’re very fresh in my mind. This blog will change that.
- I just love food. Making food, eating food, talking about food, writing about food, taking pictures of food. I hope this blog gives me a place to channel that, rather than posting random food pics all over the internet and on Facebook to anyone that will look at them.
WHY THE CRAFTY LARDER?
Well, I wanted a name that would describe what the blog is about. It’s mainly going to contain food, so it is a ‘Larder’ of sorts but I also would like to blog from time to time about various crafty things I’ve been doing and things I’ve made. I think ‘The Crafty Larder’ sums it up pretty well!
Anyway, that’s enough talking about me. Let’s get onto a recipe, should we?
RECIPE: Sweet Macaroni
I decided this should be my first recipe to share with you because it’s a bit of an unsung hero in my book. My mum used to make it when I was a child and I loved it. At the time, I was sure everyone else was eating it too but when I ask people about it now I realise most people think I’m crazy to even suggest putting pasta into a dessert! If you were thinking that already, you are missing out and you NEED to make this.
Ingredients
4oz Macaroni
1pt Milk (full fat is best and my mum will frown at you if you use anything else…)
2oz Sugar
Dash of Vanilla Extract
Grating of Nutmeg
Instructions
This is so simple, these are barely instructions. Just chuck all of the ingredients in an oven-proof dish, grate some nutmeg over the top and bake in an oven at 180ΒΊC for 45-60mins. When it’s done, it will have formed a skin on top – don’t throw this away, it is absolutely the best bit!
Alternatively, you can put it all into a slow cooker and cook on low for 3-4 hours. You won’t get a skin with this method and you’ll need to stir it a couple of times to make sure it’s not stuck to the bottom.

So, there it is, my first blog post! Let me know what you think. I hope you enjoyed it and will come back to read more in the future…
Welcome to the blogosphere Kevin I would never have thought of sweet macaroni. Huh!
Thanks! I find it odd that people DON'T think of sweet macaroni. It's delicious!
It would never have occured to me.
Hello, welcome to the fun world of blogging, look forward to following your progress!
Thank you. I love the look of your blog and look forward to reading more of your posts π
Welcome Kevin! Jac bullied me to come over and say hello hee hee! We all do what she says, well within reason! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Hey! I'm getting a bad reputation here!!!
Hahaha! I don't mind really, she has been so helpful and I'd never have created this blog without her π
Thanks Kevin π
This sounds utterly delicious – I can see myself curled up on a winter evening with a bowl of this!
Oh yes! The particular one in the photograph was eaten in the winter with the fire roaring, just after eating a bowl of beef stew (another of my mum's recipes!) Sometimes, I really love winter…
Hi Kevin, Jac just mentioned you to me and I had to pop over and say hello! Welcome to the world of blogging – it's great to see another boy, we are a scarce commodity. I'm always around, if I can help at all give me a shout!
Thanks Stuart. I am overwhelmed by how lovely and friendly everyone it. I know I made the right decision to join the blogging community!
Hi Kevin! Great first post – lovely to get to know you! I'm also a friend of Jac at Tinned Tomatoes and she also gave me the push to start my wee blog at Blethering Boys. Welcome to the world of blogging – it's fun and highly addictive!!
Hi Genna! I think I am addicted already…! Chris is watching the football, so I'm off to make a cuppa and have a browse of your blog.
Welcome! I'm sure you'll find the blogosphere a lot of fun. Until now I'd forgotten all about sweet macaroni. My mother used to make it when I was really little. Thanks for evoking a lovely memory. GG
YAY! Finally, someone else who had this as a child… I was beginning to think I was the only one.
Macaroni without cheese? I really must try this some time.
As for reasons 2 & 3 for writing the blog, I'm just the same. Unfortunately writing the blog ( at: http://vegaunaturele.blogspot.co.uk/ since you asked) doesn't help because I keep forgetting to write the recipe as I go along and so have forgotten it by the time I've decided it's a keeper.
My memory is not quite that bad just yet, but it's getting there! Thanks for your comment and I hope you enjoy the macaroni.
Hi Kevin, welcome to the world of blogging. I'm another one sent over by Jac. Never had sweet macaroni before, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Hi Choclette. I'm pretty sure I already follow you on twitter and I really love your blog. Look forward to reading more from you!
Hi & welcome to the blogging community! I'd never have thought of it either, must try it!
A bit late to the party but welcome to the blogging world. Your blog is looking great & I love the name π
Hehe, my mom used to cook such kind of pasta as well, and I quite liked it. Now I am sceptical about pasta with milk; however I like the idea of sweet kinds of pasta by adding fruit and berries! Good start anyway!:)
